8 years ago, I stepped out of the corporate world and embarked on my entrepreneurial journey. Over the years, I realized that one of the most critical factors to be able to excel as an entrepreneur is not about what type of business you are in, but what mindset do you have.
Passion and motivation of course is essential. But having the ability to stand up and recover quickly from down times / failures is even more important. This is in fact the most important mindset you need to have in your entrepreneurial journey.
Entrepreneurship is not a job, but a lifestyle. It can be a tough and long journey. Problems exist all the time and facing failures are very normal – they happen almost everyday. If you constantly drill on the negative side and get upset easily, your lifestyle would be very difficult. Instead if you are able to forget about your downs/failures and to accept and let go, your life will be much easier. It is almost having a selective memory – to only remember the good things in life and to have eternal optimism. Bearing this in mind will help you recover fast and stand up again. The faster you recover, the faster you are back on the right track for action and to be successful.
Being an entrepreneur, you will have a constant battle with fear and anxiety. You are saying bye to a stable lifestyle (and of course a stable income). Uncertainty will be your new norm. However If you are excited by constantly taking on new challenges, then yes entrepreneur is right for you and it can be the most rewarding and enjoyable job in the world!
