Feeling gloomy today mostly because of the weather! I HATE RAINI!!! To shake out the dull mood, I decided to spice it up with some Haberno Chili Wings!.
Don’t fool by its cute outlook. Haberno chilis are among the hottest chili in the world, scoring a whopping 350,000 SHU in the Scoville Heat Scale, which to me and you equate to 200x times hotter than of a normal chili! Good thing though apart from the spiciness, it also comes with a hint of sweetness that those who can take the heat can truly appreciate which works wonders with Mexican food.
So how hot is our Habanero Chicken Wing?
In order to make the dish “more appreciable”, Chef Eligio has lowered the heat a bit, preparing the Habanero Sauce with only 80% of Habanero Chili and does not marinate the Chicken Wings beforehand. So it means – it can still be hotter!
One interesting thing I realized is – eating hot food certainly can be trained. Before opening our Mexican restaurant, my spiciness tolerance level was only at the beginner’s level. However through years of training in preparing and tasting hot salsa everyday, I can actually eat Habanero Chili now!!! Of course still nowhere near from our Chef Eligio.
We are currently hosting a Habanero Chili Challenge at Verde MAR. Contestants must finish 5pcs of Habanero Chicken Wing within 3 minutes, and must wait for another 3 minutes before they are allowed to drink or eating anything. Our record time now is 1 min! So if you like spicy food, come challenge yourself. Winner will earn a spot on our Wall of Fame and receive a certificate.
