So how did we go from serving Mexican food to teaching piñata class??? It all started from last October – when I was randomly browsing the internet looking for ideas to celebrate the Day of the Dead festival (Dia de Muertos, 1-2 Nov). I discovered a DIY paper flower tutorial on youtube and decided to give it a try. At first I was planning to make only a few (People who knew me personally definitely knows that I’m not a DIY person!!!) however it was so much fun that I ended up making a lot of flowers and a bunch of other DIY decors and the restaurant became this in just a week!
And since the papercraft DIY was just so much fun, we started to experiment and make piñatas ourselves. First as restaurant decor and then we started selling them and hosting piñata parties. It truly bring us joy to see our customers take home their beautiful piñatas and enjoying themselves at our parties. So we decided to make more…. and gradually many customers started to enquire about piñata classes because they want to learn how to make one for themselves. Thus here it is – less than one year later – we have launched our piñata-making workshop successfully.
People always asked me why I opened restaurants and how I keep my passion going. I believe the above is just a perfect example on how I run my business – I never set a limit on what I can or cannot do. For me, the sky is the limit and creativity just depends on how much we want it to be true. Restaurant is an operation intensive business. It can be very tiring (it truly is!) and extremely repetitive. However if you view from another angle, it is a platform for us to do whatever we can to interact with our customers. Food is our tool to start the conversation but it never stops there. Passion is contagious and we whole heartedly invite everyone in Hong Kong to join us and share the fun and enjoy our hospitality!
Special note: Nothing is possible without Chef Eligio pouring all his heart and soul into the restaurant. The effort, time and energy he put into the restaurant is beyond words. Not only is he an amazing chef, he personally hand make all the beautiful piñatas.
